We produce synthetic fuel from air, water and renewable power. Our process is carbon-neutral, circular, scalable and has higher product energy density than comparable electric and hydrogen solutions. Performance Engineering Team

You will join a close-knit, multidisciplinary team of exceptional engineers who care passionately about the problem. You will apply technical expertise in an open, free-thinking, fast-paced and results orientated environment, to deliver continuous improvement across the whole process and accelerate our engineering cycle. This will include development of a suite of tools, with advanced modelling, simulation and analysis capability, that will evolve into an industry leading and fully embedded, process performance operating system for effective, data-driven development and operation.

Positions

Role Overview

A multidisciplinary role that covers modelling, simulation, analysis, R&D, experiment and design, across the whole process. The role will require working with an agile mindset, responsive to daily requirements and direction, while keeping sight of long-term development objectives. Initial priorities will include development of advanced simulation models in Matlab/Simulink/Simscape, that will form the basis for the global performance operating system. These will include hybrid models, with empirical and first-principles components and both steady-state and dynamic instances to suit different use cases. Working methodologies will seek to develop a culture of quantification, simplification, free-thinking, digitalisation, automation and continual improvement. Outcomes will include FEED, detailed engineering design and process optimisation, conceptual research and design, operation optimisation and predictive maintenance, lifecycle design and management, performance tracking and forecasting.

Attributes

  • You have at least a Batchelor’s degree, or equivalent, in Engineering, Maths or similar discipline.
  • You have extensive direct experience of modelling, simulation and analysis in Matlab and Simulink, and other systems or process analysis software.
  • You have solid industrial experience, preferably in the chemical, oil, gas or other process industries.
  • Your core specific knowledge and understanding may include statistical analysis, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics, chemical reactions and processing (specifically hydrocarbons), balance-of-plant equipment and data acquisition and control systems.
  • You pride yourself on your analytical, problem-solving mindset and have excellent communication skills

Role Overview

Responsible for all routine performance analysis and the development of this process, in parallel with being the primary point of contact for all ongoing ad-hoc analysis studies. This will require continual inspection and evaluation of all relevant data across process, experiment and market and will seek to quantify, measure and forecast all aspects of the process. Analysis will require consolidation of data from a variety of sources and will include a routine market intelligence process to identify opportunity and allow effective techno-economic evaluation of the product lifecycle. Key objectives include utilisation of all data available to gain advanced insight, fast identification of improvement opportunities and effective wider communication of this information to the team, employing innovative visualisation and communication methods. As the data set expands, more statistical, global optimisation and machine learning methods can be developed for added insight and optimisation. Other outcomes will include recommendations for further data acquisition, analysis, experiment or design.

  • You have at least a Batchelor’s degree, or equivalent, in Engineering, Maths, Computer Science or similar.
  • You have proven experience as a data analyst or data scientist
  • You have strong core maths knowledge (calculus and linear algebra), applied statistics skills and knowledge of machine-learning methods.

Role Overview

Responsible for using CFD to develop and run models to simulate the complex fluid flows in the process, where advanced understanding of the thermodynamics and fluid mechanics will be beneficial. CFD models and software will be integrated into complete process models and simulations will be validated against real results. Results will be used to drive an iterative loop of model-based design for key process equipment, particularly reactor design initially. Simulation studies will primarily focus on internal production process flows but will also extend to external flows, associated with renewables generation and site design, for example.

Attributes

  • You have at least a Batchelor’s degree, or equivalent, in Aeronautical Engineering, Maths, Computer Science or similar.
  • You have extensive professional CFD experience using one or more commercial packages such as OpenFOAM, Ansys Fluent, Star-CCM+, preferably in the chemical, oil, gas or other process industries.
  • You have a solid working knowledge of thermal simulation methods and also may have experience with mass transfer, reacting flow and multiphase models.
  • You may have experience of co-simulation of CFD models within other simulation packages such as Matlab, ASPEN or gProms, and are comfortable creating and developing such integrations.
  • You will work closely with the team’s chemical and design engineers to enhance modelling, understanding and development of reacting flows across the production process.
  • You will preferably have engineering experience including some of the following applications: reactor design, heat exchangers (fluid flow, temperature fields, convection), cooling circuits, pumps, mixing, multi-phase applications (pressure drop, volume flows, performance), diverting, separation, and filtration etc.
  • You are proficient in one or more commercial CAD packages, such as AutoCAD, CATIA or Siemens NX
  • You are passionate about results visualisation, comparison and communication and management methods and streamlining the simulation workflow.

Role Overview

Designing, implementing, and integrating a range of applications that will evolve into an industry leading process performance operating system to be used across multiple sites, and comprising information covering SCADA, simulation, visualisation and documentation functions. Will work in a continuous integration / continual deployment environment with rapidly evolving requirements and close collaboration with the whole team. Will use the current best front-end and back-end technologies to create a web-based and hybrid cloud process performance system that is comprehensive, scalable and fully integrated across all aspects of the process. A key function will be developing and maintaining an effective data storage and management infrastructure to handle multiple data types and interface with a range of applications and IIoT devices.

Attributes

  • You have at least a Batchelor’s degree, or equivalent, in Computer Science, Software Engineering or similar.
  • You have extensive experience and knowledge of multiple languages including Java, C#, Python and the .NET framework.
  • You have 3+ years professional experience in software and system development and integration of applications and APIs, ideally in a data processing context.
  • You are familiar current best front-end, back-end technologies and database options for building an application stack in a hybrid cloud system.
  • You have extensive experience with HTML, CSS and Javascript and front-end frameworks like React or Angular
  • You have a good appreciation of effective UI/UX
  • You have knowledge public cloud PaaS offerings and their use to build data driven applications, processing both streaming and batch data, with connected users, CMS and integrating with advanced analytics.
  • You preferably have an interest, knowledge or experience of D3 or similar web-based visualisation software and Matlab or other simulation software
  • You are preferably familiar with SCADA network architecture and associated instrumentation, communications systems and IIoT devices.
  • You are comfortable with a CI/CD environment and Git.
  • You will interact with engineers and operators in an industrial context and produce necessary handbook documentation for applications and processes.
  • You are excited by the idea your role could rapidly expand into a team leader role as the business grows.
  • You can react quickly to constantly evolving requirements in a dynamic, agile environment.
